Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. We do not keep or record those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email or other message long enough to review and answer it. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, ordinary server and analytics systems may collect technical visit details:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Device category and operating system
- Browser name and version
- Approximate visit duration on each page
- IP address assigned to the device
- A referring website, when one is supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand aggregate traffic, including popular pages and common exit points. A browser can reject or remove cookies, though doing so may change how parts of the site work.
What We Do With This Data
- Route a submitted query to the selected search provider
- Find and repair performance or technical problems
- Measure which content is useful and what needs improvement
- Operate the site and keep pages responsive
- Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. Cedar County content identifies official custodians such as the sheriff, Iowa District Court, the Iowa Department of Public Safety Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the site's search boxes. Information submitted there is subject to the selected provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its retention and disclosure rules, so review those terms before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Cedar County offices, Iowa court portals, government agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's own privacy terms apply. Review them before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their systems to observe activity across websites for interest-based advertising. We do not operate that cross-site tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may still be available to the following limited recipients:
- Analytics vendors that measure site traffic and function
- Search providers that process a query sent through their tool
- Advertising networks that serve placements
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect the information we handle. No internet system can be guaranteed completely secure, however, and we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
This service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, we will remove it after receiving notice.
Your Data Rights
Rights vary by residence and applicable law. Iowa Code chapter 22 governs records held by Iowa public bodies, while chapter 692 limits dissemination of state criminal-history data. Those laws do not turn this private site into a public records custodian. Subject to the law that applies to a request, you may:
- Request access to covered data about you
- Seek deletion where the law provides that right
- Ask that inaccurate covered information be corrected when applicable
- Opt out of processing covered by a statutory opt-out right
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. A new version will be posted here with an updated effective date.
